What if you could have your own personal guide join you on your park visit to describe the natural and cultural history of everything you see? Palmetto Islands County Park in Mount Pleasant is making that happen. The park’s new interpretive cell phone tour, which opened Fall 2011, allows visitors to access audio recordings, photos, and videos about Palmetto Islands County Park.

[CHARLESTON COUNTY] – On May 26, 2011, the Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission (CCPRC) was the proud recipient of a Aaa rating from Moody’s Investor Services, a leading provider of credit ratings, research and risk analysis for public agencies. Comparative to a financial management report card, this rating reflects CCPRC’s financial stability in a bond market for 2011 bonds. The Aaa designation reflects the highest possible rating for a government entity, and is a first for CCPRC.

On February 28, 2011, Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission (CCPRC) purchased McLeod Plantation on James Island. The property was purchased from the Trustees of Historic Charleston Foundation for $3.3 million.

The Charleston County Park & Recreation Commission is set to dedicate a building at one of the agency’s parks to a former commissioner. On February 24, the park center at Palmetto Islands County Park will be named in honor of Mr. E. Donald Pounder, chairman emeritus of CCPRC.
